셋째 논쟁 (빌닷)
제25장
1 수아 사람 빌닷이 대답하여 이르되
2 하나님은 주권과 위엄을 가지셨고 높은 곳에서 화평을 베푸시느니라
3 그의 군대를 어찌 계수할 수 있으랴 그가 비추는 광명을 받지 않은 자가 누구냐
4 그런즉 하나님 앞에서 사람이 어찌 의롭다 하며 여자에게서 난 자가 어찌 깨끗하다 하랴
5 보라 그의 눈에는 달이라도 빛을 발하지 못하고 별도 빛나지 못하거든
6 하물며 구더기 같은 사람, 벌레 같은 인생이랴
제26장
1 욥이 대답하여 이르되
2 네가 힘 없는 자를 참 잘도 도와 주는구나 기력 없는 팔을 참 잘도 구원하여 주는구나
3 지혜 없는 자를 참 잘도 가르치는구나 큰 지식을 참 잘도 자랑하는구나
4 네가 누구를 향하여 말하느냐 누구의 정신이 네게서 나왔느냐
5 죽은 자의 영들이 물 밑에서 떨며 물에서 사는 것들도 그러하도다
6 하나님 앞에서는 스올도 벗은 몸으로 드러나며 멸망도 가림이 없음이라
7 그는 북쪽을 허공에 펴시며 땅을 아무것도 없는 곳에 매다시며
8 물을 빽빽한 구름에 싸시나 그 밑의 구름이 찢어지지 아니하느니라
9 그는 보름달을 가리시고 자기의 구름을 그 위에 펴시며
10 수면에 경계를 그으시니 빛과 어둠이 함께 끝나는 곳이니라
11 그가 꾸짖으신즉 하늘 기둥이 흔들리며 놀라느니라
12 그는 능력으로 바다를 잔잔하게 하시며 지혜로 라합을 깨뜨리시며
13 그의 입김으로 하늘을 맑게 하시고 손으로 날렵한 뱀을 무찌르시나니
14 보라 이런 것들은 그의 행사의 단편일 뿐이요 우리가 그에게서 들은 것도 속삭이는 소리일 뿐이니 그의 큰 능력의 우렛소리를 누가 능히 헤아리랴
제27장
1 욥이 또 풍자하여 이르되
2 나의 정당함을 물리치신 하나님, 나의 영혼을 괴롭게 하신 전능자의 사심을 두고 맹세하노니
3 （나의 호흡이 아직 내 속에 완전히 있고 하나님의 숨결이 아직도 내 코에 있느니라）
4 결코 내 입술이 불의를 말하지 아니하며 내 혀가 거짓을 말하지 아니하리라
5 나는 결코 너희를 옳다 하지 아니하겠고 내가 죽기 전에는 나의 온전함을 버리지 아니할 것이라
6 내가 내 공의를 굳게 잡고 놓지 아니하리니 내 마음이 나의 생애를 비웃지 아니하리라
7 나의 원수는 악인 같이 되고 일어나 나를 치는 자는 불의한 자 같이 되기를 원하노라
8 불경건한 자가 이익을 얻었으나 하나님이 그의 영혼을 거두실 때에는 무슨 희망이 있으랴
9 환난이 그에게 닥칠 때에 하나님이 어찌 그의 부르짖음을 들으시랴
10 그가 어찌 전능자를 기뻐하겠느냐 항상 하나님께 부르짖겠느냐
11 하나님의 솜씨를 내가 너희에게 가르칠 것이요 전능자에게 있는 것을 내가 숨기지 아니하리라
12 너희가 다 이것을 보았거늘 어찌하여 그토록 무익한 사람이 되었는고
13 악인이 하나님께 얻을 분깃, 포악자가 전능자에게서 받을 산업은 이것이라
14 그의 자손은 번성하여도 칼을 위함이요 그의 후손은 음식물로 배부르지 못할 것이며
15 그 남은 자들은 죽음의 병이 돌 때에 묻히리니 그들의 과부들이 울지 못할 것이며
16 그가 비록 은을 티끌 같이 쌓고 의복을 진흙 같이 준비할지라도
17 그가 준비한 것을 의인이 입을 것이요 그의 은은 죄 없는 자가 차지할 것이며
18 그가 지은 집은 좀의 집 같고 파수꾼의 초막 같을 것이며
19 부자로 누우려니와 다시는 그렇지 못할 것이요 눈을 뜬즉 아무것도 없으리라
20 두려움이 물 같이 그에게 닥칠 것이요 폭풍이 밤에 그를 앗아갈 것이며
21 동풍이 그를 들어올리리니 그는 사라질 것이며 그의 처소에서 그를 몰아내리라
22 하나님은 그를 아끼지 아니하시고 던져 버릴 것이니 그의 손에서 도망치려고 힘쓰리라
23 사람들은 그를 바라보며 손뼉치고 그의 처소에서 그를 비웃으리라
제28장
1 은이 나는 곳이 있고 금을 제련하는 곳이 있으며
2 철은 흙에서 캐내고 동은 돌에서 녹여 얻느니라
3 사람은 어둠을 뚫고 모든 것을 끝까지 탐지하여 어둠과 죽음의 그늘에 있는 광석도 탐지하되
4 그는 사람이 사는 곳에서 멀리 떠나 갱도를 깊이 뚫고 발길이 닿지 않는 곳 사람이 없는 곳에 매달려 흔들리느니라
5 음식은 땅으로부터 나오나 그 밑은 불처럼 변하였도다
6 그 돌에는 청옥이 있고 사금도 있으며
7 그 길은 솔개도 알지 못하고 매의 눈도 보지 못하며
8 용맹스러운 짐승도 밟지 못하였고 사나운 사자도 그리로 지나가지 못하였느니라
9 사람이 굳은 바위에 손을 대고 산을 뿌리까지 뒤엎으며
10 반석에 수로를 터서 각종 보물을 눈으로 발견하고
11 누수를 막아 스며 나가지 않게 하고 감추어져 있던 것을 밝은 데로 끌어내느니라
12 그러나 지혜는 어디서 얻으며 명철이 있는 곳은 어디인고
13 그 길을 사람이 알지 못하나니 사람 사는 땅에서는 찾을 수 없구나
14 깊은 물이 이르기를 내 속에 있지 아니하다 하며 바다가 이르기를 나와 함께 있지 아니하다 하느니라
15 순금으로도 바꿀 수 없고 은을 달아도 그 값을 당하지 못하리니
16 오빌의 금이나 귀한 청옥수나 남보석으로도 그 값을 당하지 못하겠고
17 황금이나 수정이라도 비교할 수 없고 정금 장식품으로도 바꿀 수 없으며
18 진주와 벽옥으로도 비길 수 없나니 지혜의 값은 산호보다 귀하구나
19 구스의 황옥으로도 비교할 수 없고 순금으로도 그 값을 헤아리지 못하리라
20 그런즉 지혜는 어디서 오며 명철이 머무는 곳은 어디인고
21 모든 생물의 눈에 숨겨졌고 공중의 새에게 가려졌으며
22 멸망과 사망도 이르기를 우리가 귀로 그 소문은 들었다 하느니라
23 하나님이 그 길을 아시며 있는 곳을 아시나니
24 이는 그가 땅 끝까지 감찰하시며 온 천하를 살피시며
25 바람의 무게를 정하시며 물의 분량을 정하시며
26 비 내리는 법칙을 정하시고 비구름의 길과 우레의 법칙을 만드셨음이라
27 그 때에 그가 보시고 선포하시며 굳게 세우시며 탐구하셨고
28 또 사람에게 말씀하셨도다 보라 주를 경외함이 지혜요 악을 떠남이 명철이니라
Job 25-28
Chapter 25
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
2 "Dominion and fear are with God; he makes peace in his high heaven.
3 Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise?
4 How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of woman be pure?
5 Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes;
6 how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!"
Chapter 26
1 Then Job answered and said:
2 "How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength!
3 How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
4 With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you?
5 The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants.
6 Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
7 He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.
8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them.
9 He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud.
10 He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke.
12 By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab.
13 By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?"
Chapter 27
1 And Job again took up his discourse, and said:
2 "As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
3 as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
4 my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit.
5 Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
6 I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.
7 "Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.
8 For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life?
9 Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?
10 Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?
11 I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
12 Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?
13 "This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty:
14 If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread.
15 Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep.
16 Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay,
17 he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver.
18 He builds his house like a moth's, like a booth that a watchman makes.
19 He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone.
20 Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off.
21 The east wind lifts him up and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
22 It hurls at him without pity; he flees from its power in headlong flight.
23 It claps its hands at him and hisses at him from its place.
Chapter 28
1 "Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold that they refine.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted from the ore.
3 Man puts an end to darkness and searches out to the farthest limit the ore in gloom and deep darkness.
4 He opens shafts in a valley away from where anyone lives; they are forgotten by travelers; they hang in the air, far away from mankind; they swing to and fro.
5 As for the earth, out of it comes bread, but underneath it is turned up as by fire.
6 Its stones are the place of sapphires, and it has dust of gold.
7 "That path no bird of prey knows, and the falcon's eye has not seen it.
8 The proud beasts have not trodden it; the lion has not passed over it.
9 "Man puts his hand to the flinty rock and overturns mountains by the roots.
10 He cuts out channels in the rocks, and his eye sees every precious thing.
11 He dams up the streams so that they do not trickle, and the thing that is hidden he brings out to light.
12 "But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?
13 Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living.
14 The deep says, 'It is not in me,' and the sea says, 'It is not with me.'
15 It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price.
16 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire.
17 Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; the price of wisdom is above pearls.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
20 "From where, then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?
21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living and concealed from the birds of the air.
22 Abaddon and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.'
23 "God understands the way to it, and he knows its place.
24 For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
25 When he gave to the wind its weight and apportioned the waters by measure,
26 when he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder,
27 then he saw it and declared it; he established it, and searched it out.
28 And he said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'"
